The internet comment-threat-echo-chamber is a scary place. Even for those of us with non-female genital equipment. Anonymity is obviously a double-edged sword. I am proud to know SO many amazing men, women, and everyone in between within the skeptic/atheist community.

The bright side of these kerfuffles is that it brings important issues to the forefront. Elevatorgate SUCKED, but it started conversations about diversity, sexism, and etiquette. Thankfully strong people like Watson were able to continue past it. I just really feel sorry for 'newcomers' like the young lady on Reddit and young men who join in on the comment threads and think that's acceptable behavior. I choose to look on the bring side and believe that 99% of the community can learn something from these situations and make the movement better in the long run.

So learn from the (paraphrased) homeland security mantra: If you see someone trolling on the internet, say something. Just be the better person.

PS: I was never threatened by Mabus. I and my fellow podcasters Donna & Gary, (thanks for the shout out, btw) consider that a great personal and professional insult. With him getting treatment we'll never know if we've "made it" in the skeptical world. :)

Oh no not another one. Again people are pissing on each other instead of fighting the enemy.

I hadn't heard about The D.J. and Christina thing, but read all about the Radford/Watson mess. I was very very sad to see the name calling from the Watson camp. Just sickening.

What really interested me was that I learned from your blog that Greg Perrine is on Skeptic Wire. I KNOW Greg and I listen to Skeptic Wire, but didn't put two and two together. Thanks for the enlightenment.

Well...this seems to draw a line that only a saint could walk. I am a skeptic, but I don't always have to hear the entire song to name the tune, nor do I make every decision "life or death." By necessity, I group things. By the above strict definition, in order to be a true skeptic, I should open every spam I get just to see if it could have merit. I don't, and unless you are already locked up in Bellvue, you don't either. I use the anecdotal evidence, batch them and move on. However, If I want to choose between Hyundai and Honda, or raise the bet at poker, I weigh my options based on the evidence at hand, review the relevant facts and make as informed a decision/judgment as I can given what I perceive.

I'll add one more to your list for Mac users; NetNewsWire. I have been using it for a couple years now and really like it. It can sync with your Goggle Reader which is great if you are away from your Mac and still need to keep up with your news (and who doesn't).
